R.E.M. - “The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite”
R.E.M. announced today they are ending their thirty year career.
Automatic for the People was one of the first albums I ever listened to. Though as a kid I preferred the pop on Green and the over-driven Monster, Automatic is the one I always come back to. “With string parts arranged by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones,” notes Rolling Stone, “this musical left turn finds a haunted beauty.” Indeed.
