If you haven’t heard, the entire Internet is reading the late David Foster Wallace’s epic novel, Infinite Jest, this summer. The appeal to reading it en masse is that there are schedules, reading guides, essays, etc., all being coordinated through this website, InfiniteSummer.org. Even Colin Meloy of The Decemberists is on board. Every library copy in LA county has already been checked out, but purchasing the book probably isn’t a bad idea. The edition pictured has a nice forward by Dave Eggers. (DFW was a long time contributor to McSweeney’s.) I’m enjoying the struggle so far, particularly the character who always answers the phone, “Mmmyellow.”
