GLAAD declares “tranny” a “slur” - MTV apologizes.
The scene Glaad objected to appeared in the “Jersey Shore” Season 2 reunion show, and showed footage of Mike Sorrentino, known as the Situation, at a Miami club referring to another club patron as “a tranny.” In an interview segment that followed, the reunion show’s host, Julissa Bermudez, also used that term, which the alliance considers a slur against transgender people.
Could it possibly be that there are reasons for shortening the word “transgender” other than to create a slur? Just because someone says, “I accidentally drank a Coke and it was gross,” doesn’t necessarily mean they’re slurring Coca-Cola.
I swear, if Hillary Duff lectures me one more time about words, I’m going to lose it.
