I’m all for using expressions that don’t make sense, except when the correct expression is just a consonant or two away. Other one to watch out for: the subtle difference between the opposites “perish the thought” and “relish the thought.” I know there are more examples of phrases likes this, but I can’t think of them at the moment. Some word pairs that are often used in the wrong contexts: uninterested / disinterested, healthy/healthful, liable/likely. If you look these up, the incorrect usages have generally been added as acceptable second usages, but I still avoid them because I’m a cool guy. (via thedailywhat)
